Venice hearts in their specialty in glasswork, known as Murano glass. On another island, across from Venice, is Murano island. This island is an industry in making glass artwork. This island is no different from Venice in architectural design and urban layout. The buildings are just as charming as the buildings in Venice, and there are canals. Like Venice, Murano Island was built. It was built solely for making glass. Because making glass can be very hazardous, and Venetians were afraid that people who were once making glass in Venice was going to burn the whole city. Therefore, Venice built an island to relieve this fear. Every store that I walked into is filled with beautiful glass artwork such as vases, animals, and jewelry.
I went to a workshop where I got to see craftsmen creating glass. It seemed to be a very risky job because there was a humungous oven filled with fire. They constantly put the glass in and out to keep the glass soft and firm to be able to sculpt it. They used special tools to work with the glass and it seemed very tough as the have to try to keep their fingers away from the glass. Creating artwork is never easy as we may think.
