What are those masks?

When I first arrived in Lima, Peru, the first thing I saw was airport employees wearing masks. Assistants in customs were wearing masks. Cashiers in stores were wearing masks. Starbuck’s (YES there is Starbucks in Peru – Thank GOODNESS!) baristas were wearing masks too. Custodians were wearing masks while they were mopping up some sh**. Yes, I’m talking about those surgical masks, the ones that the surgeons wear and the Chinese wore when SARS hit their country big time! So, I guess there’s a great fear of SWINE FLU in Peru? So, perhaps because these employees are surrounded by a flood of international travelers, there is a reason for them to be fearful…

Someone should tell them that those masks only protect you from them, and not vice versa!
