Come join me for a taxi ride!

Come join me for a taxi ride to see the city of Peru from my school to the host family’s home.  You will hear my voice and the taxi driver’s voice in the video.  In spite of our communication barriers, I tried my best to communicate in Spanish, both trying to say what I exactly want to say and also trying understand what the driver was saying in Spanish, although I accidentally threw in some French words in – for example, I said “l’école” a French word for school.  The minute I realized that I had said in French instead of Spanish, I immediately corrected myself by saying “la escuela.”  Oh my!  I did throw in some English words because he did know some English, and whatever I said in English is what I didn’t know how to say in Spanish yet, but I will soon!  What’s funny though is that I said to the driver that his “English is very good.”  Of course, he speaks broken English, but it’s A LOT better compared to other Peruvians whom I’ve come across in Cusco.  He speaks way more English than anyone else in Peru (except for the administrators and the travel agent at the school)!  HaHa!  I was just impressed by the fact that he’s just a taxi driver, and he can speak some English!  That’s a BIG plus for tourists!  Anyways, at least I was able to have a little practice of speaking some Spanish.  That’s the beauty of studying another language in another country!

Anyways, enjoy watching your little tour of Cusco!  Just be prepared for some cultural shock!
