This afternoon, I went out on an adventurous exploration! As I mentioned earlier, I’m a minority in Peru. It’s a somewhat strange feeling because I’ve never experienced it; however, at the same time, I learn how it feels to have a different skin color from the majority of the population. I just simply feel that I’m unique! There is also a big diversity of how people wear clothes. Some women wear skirts while some others are much more casual. The plaza of Peru is a huge hangout area for Peruvians as there are lots of benches and some green space. Anyway, get to know your neighbors of Peru by looking at some photos of people that I’ve taken!

The wraps and scarves used by the women illustrate an important point, I believe– and that is that Americans and western culture in general uses a lot of “gadgetry” which isn’t necessarily best in order to bond with a child! I used Maya wrap slings, made with guatamalan fabric, for my babies and toddlers. I lived in them, really. I couldn’t live without them once I got used to them! Babies are more content when carried in the grocery store or at the park. We hiked a lot with the kids in Colorado, and Elliot always rode in a sling. Children who are with the adult and talking with them also benefit from the language acquisition– especially kids with cochlear implants! I guess what I’m saying is that i love the pics of the native fabrics… and they make me nostalgic for babywearing, which is something that I believed wholeheartedly in and practiced!
