When French people see high school students being crowned as homecoming queen or king, or students playing foorballs, or students wearing a cap and a gown when they graduate in the American films, they think these events are completely fantasies! Why? NONE of these events exist in France! Schools in France are just about work! Clubs and extra-curricular activities do NOT even exist in France either! Again, schools in France are all about beeing focused on school work and studying. They do not have fun in school like we, Americans, do. I showed my last host family girls and Christophe photos on my video iPod of my high school life ranging from Prom to French Club activities. All of the photos that they saw completely shocked them since these photos made them realize that these events are REAL and TRUE! They were even completely fasinated by the photos of my high school pep rallies and the spirit week (when we get dessed up in superhero, pajamas, tacky, and etc.)! Again…there are NO fun in school…students in France go to school, listen to the teacher lecturing, take notes, and then go home and study! In addition, when I showed them photos of my high school graduation party, in particular the ones with my teachers, they were completely shocked and freaked out that Americans have good relationships with their teachers! In France, students are NOT allow to have relationships with their teachers! They are strictly separated! Teachers are teachers. Students are students. On the other hand, teachers actually have better working hours and salaries in France than in United States. Teachers only work three hours per day and still receive the same salary as a full time teacher in United States! They don’t even have papers to grade because the students have only one exam which is at the end of the year! In fact, parents can even help at school as an assistant and STILL earn a salary! Christophe’s mother works at her son’s school for ONLY ONE hour each day and still earns $$$! I bet PTA moms would LOVE that! All in all, schools in France are about learning and studying hard, schools in US are about having fun! School colors do not exist in France! Why? There no sport teams in schools in France!
