The British Museum is one of the best places to review the Survey of Western Art History I, an art history course that studies art from the prehistoric era until gothic era. This museum is glorified to own many incredible artifacts and art pieces from the Assyrian era to the Ancient Greek era. To my amazement, there were artifacts from the Parthenon in Athens. This museum owns a good part of the pediment from the Parthenon. The sculptures on the pediment were magnificent. The curves of the fabric on people were just astonishing, and I felt that I wanted to touch them and feel the softness of the fabric. In spite of many of the body parts were chipped away, I could still see incredible amount of details on the bodies and animals. The vains and the wrinkles really stood out.
Even though the Assyrian era was not my favorite era, but I still enjoyed seeing some of the artifacts as from my knowledge when I studien in the Survey of Western Art History I, the Assyrians and its surrounding cultures in Middle East were really the first ones who started to create civilizations, politics, and culture. Without them, I don’t know what direction the history could have taken.
In addition to seeing the Ancient Greek artifacts, Assyrian artifacts, and Ancient Roman artifacts too, I also saw Ancient Egyptian artifacts. There were certainly quite a few mummy caskets. They were certainly shiny as they could be. With excitements, I saw the Rosetta Stone, a stone that has hieroglyphics writing. I studied this piece in the Survey of Western Art History I. It’s always awesome to see artifacts and artwork in present that I studied in classes.
