Bastille Day

Today is France’s Independence Day. I actually have to research on how France became a country. From what I heard, it’s more complicated than United States’. United States’ was just simply to be free from England. Anyways, Anaïs, Michèle (Anais’ mother), and I went to La Rhune. It’s the highest mountain in Pays Basque region. We took a little train to the highest peak where we got to see the most amazing view of the entire Pays Basque region. It’s absolutely gorgeous. We can see Biarritz, Saint-Jean de Luz, Bayonne, and even Spain. Did you know that Bayonne is right next door to Spain? In fact, I actually walked across the border on the mountain. Part of the mountain is in Spain! I have to mention something that is hysterical – if we want to take a dog with us on the train to the peak of the mountain, we have to pay the admission like us, the people! The amission to pay for a dog is the same price as we pay for a child – 7 euros!

After the trip to the mountain, we went to the beach since it was a hot day! As usual, we relaxed and swam in the waves.
Tonight was just full of laughters and fun. Anais’s aunt and uncle came over to just to have a conversation with us. Most of the time we discussed about my american culture and just simply how it’s so different from France! After her aunt and uncle left around 10, Anaïs, Michèle, and I continued chatting outside on the patio until 1:00 in the morning! In France, the sun does not start setting until 9 o’clock and the sky is not fully dark until around 11 o’ clock!
