One of my favorite Basque Towns

Saint Jean de Luz is an incredibly charming town.  The architectural design has a mix of French and Spanish Basque design.  The typical French Basque architectural designs are quite simple.  The walls are completely white and made of concrete.  There are red or green or sometimes blue wooden posts attached horizontally and vertically to the buildings.  The Spanish Basque buildings do not have the wooden posts unlike the French Basque buildings.  They have stones implemented inside the concreted walls surrounding the windows and the doors.  The walls are usually light brown or perhaps brownish pink.  Thus, the architectural design in Saint Jean de Luz is well mixed by having both stones and wooden posts.  It’s quite interesting.

Along with the beautiful architecture, this town rests by a magnificent beach.  The beach in Saint Jean de Luz is quite calm as there are no rough waves unlike the beaches in Biarritz and Anglet.

So, I took my family to Saint Jean de Luz.  We just mostly shopped there.  Saint Jean de Luz is actually a great shopping town.  There are lots of unique boutiques such as there is a boutique that sells only Murano glass and Venetian masks.  There are quite a few boutiques that sell beautiful and bright linens such as table clothes, napkins, towels, and even some cloths to hang on the wall.  I actually brought one for my dorm.  There are also some wonderful bakeries there such as Maison Adam which sells delicious cookies called macaroons and Basque cakes.  Maison Adam can only be found in Saint Jean de Luz and Biarritz.  So, if anyone is ever in one of these towns, do NOT miss stopping this bakery.  Their cookies are too unique to miss!

[...] I just hung around Saint Jean de Luz today.  No need to explain about this town as I expained it in this entry. [...]
