As we all hear on the news about global warming frequently, many Americans continue not to understand this situation. Like Al Gore said in his documentary, “This is not a political conversial. This is a fact.” I have to prove to him that he is absolutely right. Like I said a few weeks ago, air condition do not exist in France. France normally had only no more than three weeks of hot weather. However, since this past three years, the temperatures in France have been rising rapidly and the hot weather is continuing to last longer and longer. This year, it just has gotten to the point that the French couldn’t handle the increasing hot weather anymore and they had to buy millions of fans and portable air condition. I can tell you that I have been melting like crazy. Don’t think I’m just a spoiled American who lives in a house with an air condition. The French are complaining just as much as I am and perhaps even more. All of the French families that I stayed with during my five weeks gave me only ONE answer to why this rising temperature and the hot weather are occuring, and their response was – GLOBAL WARMING . Please don’t tell me “Oh they’re just exagerating!” No, they are not exagerating and like Al Gore said, “This is a fact.” I am here in France and experiencing this global warming situation. Many French have expressed their angers toward United States for not making an effort in this situation. United States is the ONLY country who refuses to sign the aggrement in order to improve the global warming situation. We, the Americans, are spoiled with big SUVs. Please don’t tell me, “Oh well, all cars pollute anyway.” No no no, big SUVs such as Ford Expedition and Explorer pollute much more than any other cars. For those of you who own big SUVs, have you noticed your gas bill? It’s WAY more expensive than for any other cars. In addition, we utilise all kinds of vehicles much more often than the Europeans. Like I said, Europeans walk more often. Also, remember, SUVs do not exist in France. Therefore, there is no reason to why Americans can’t live without them. Think about your future generation. Do you want them to continue to see our beautiful planet Earth? In fact, France has millions of organizations that teach children how to respect our planet Earth. For example, a couple organizations take children to the beach and have them pick up the trash. We all need to learn how to take care of Earth, starting at a very young age – not at 20 years old, not at 15 years old. Start teaching children as early as 3 or 4 years old. Please remember this – the beautiful snow on the Swiss Alps will become extinct faster than you may realize if the global warming continues to rise. If you want your children, your grand-children and your entire future generation to see the beautiful Swiss Alps, start taking actions – pick up trash that we see, buy cars that are better for the environment, and if the food store and/or the pharmacie are not far, walk there instead of taking the car. Again, this is not a political conversial. This is a fact and the Americans need to start seeing this situation. It’s not fair to the other countries who are dealing with the problem that is not completely their fault.
