An Old City on top of a hill

It’s hard to believe that I’m living in the history that I was taught throughout my life. I remember clearly that in middle school, I learned that towns that were built during the Middle Ages were typically built on land surrounded by water like Bayonne in the Basque region, or on top of a hill.

I’m walking up the hill. There are stones on the floor. No surprises! Almost everywhere I go in Europe, there are stones on the floor. That’s one of the traits that makes cities in Europe so beautiful. It’s not simple like roads made of plain ol’ black tar. The lines and the variety forms of rocks adds the vibration to the city. As always, buildings are built next to each other.

I visited les Baux de Provence, a village that sits on top of the Alpilles. Les Baux de Provence is just another example of a charming European village.

There are lots of great boutiques where visitors can grab lots of specialties from Provence such as dolls, circular shaped towels, dried lilacs, and ceramics.
