Florence is rich in architecturally beautiful cathedrals and churches. Il Duomo, Santa Croce, and San Lorenzo are all very unique religious function places, but they share a few similarities. First of all, Santa Croce and San Lorenzo are churches and Il Duomo is a cathedral. All of these religious places have very symmetrical interiors, but the designs are quite different. San Lorenzo and Santa Croce both have flat ceilings, but in Santa Croce, the ceiling is wooden, and in San Lorenzo, the ceilings is made of plaster. In Il Duomo, the ceiling is pointed and ribbon vaulted. All three of them have arcades. In Il Doumo and Santa Croce, both have pointed arcades, but San Lorenzo has rounded arcades. In all three of the cathedral/churches, the columns on the arches are cornithian and they’re made of gray stone. Both Il Duomo and Santa Croce have rose windows, but San Lorenzo has just plain simple windows.
